When Napoleon Hill was a young man, he was obsessed with Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie was a steel tycoon who controlled the steel industry. Napoleon Hill made it his mission to discover what made Carnegie the richest man in the land. During his studies, he found 17 principles that made Carnegie a special man.
The most powerful principle of them all was the Mastermind Principle.
What is that?
Let me explain it. If I have a dollar and you have a dollar, we can exchange our dollars. Each of us will have a dollar. Ideas do not follow this principle. If we exchange ideas, we both keep our idea, and we gain another one. Imagine what happened if we have more people exchanging ideas with us.
How powerful would that be?
Napoleon Hill thinks that exchanging ideas is the most powerful business tool, and I might add the most misunderstood and underutilized tool in business. Henry Ford used this tool to dominate the auto manufacturing industry in the 1920s. He met with Harvey Firestone, Thomas Edison, John Burroughs, and few others once a month to exchange ideas with them. Henry Ford was once asked about the secret to his success, and he answered, "My monthly meeting with my group."
